What happens at an individual hearing in immigration court? The individual hearing in immigration court is like you have in a trial in a criminal case or a trial in a civil case. That’s when the immigration judge will find out if you’re eligible for any sort of relief from removal from the United States. Be it voluntary departure or a green card application, or an asylum application that you have, the individual hearing is the hearing that the judge would use the time to determine if you are eligible. I have seen these last an hour and a half, I’ve seen them last five minutes, and I’ve in last more than a week; so it depends on how complicated your case is.
