Overview:

  • For financially self-sufficient applicants who will not work in Spain.
  • Initially valid for 1 year; then renewable in 2-year increments.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrate sufficient funds for yourself and dependents.
  • Private Spanish health insurance.
  • No employment or professional activity in Spain.
  • Standard civil documents and clean criminal record.

Process:

  1. Apply from home country (consulate).
  2. Enter Spain; complete empadronamiento and TIE card within 1 month.
  3. Renew at 2-year intervals; eligible for long-term residence after 5 years.
