Greg Abbott threatened to withdraw his state from a federal refugee resettlement program Wednesday, saying the Obama administration has until month’s end to show it is serious about scrutinizing refugees from Syria and other “terrorist-based nations.”

Abbott said he wants the FBI to conduct a background check on every potential refugee, and blasted the White House for pushing to accommodate more Syrian refugees despite “serious problems” with vetting them.
