Law360, Philadelphia (September 21, 2016, 5:34 PM EDT) — A Pennsylvania legislative committee gave initial approval on Tuesday to a bill that could impose civil liability on Philadelphia, a so-called sanctuary city, for injuries and property damage resulting from crimes committed by undocumented aliens.

The Republican-controlled House State Government Committee voted 15-to-8 along party lines to approve legislation sponsored by Rep. Martina White, R-Philadelphia, that would not only impose civil liability on Philadelphia but would also essentially make it illegal to restrict city employees, including police officers, from questioning individuals about their immigration status….
