Law360, New York (December 2, 2015, 4:50 PM ET) — Citing a “significant surge” of migrants illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, the federal government on Tuesday asked the Ninth Circuit to speed up its appeal of a ruling that found the Obama administration’s detention of immigrant families violated a years-old settlement.

In the three months since U.S. District Judge Dolly M. Gee ordered the release of immigrant children and parents, the number of people apprehended while crossing the southwest border with family members has surged past 17,200, government lawyers said.
