Law360, New York (October 13, 2016, 8:17 PM EDT) — The government intends to pursue criminal contempt charges against Maricopa, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio over violating an injunction that barred detaining people viewed as being in the country without proper authorization, a Justice Department representative has confirmed, with a trial scheduled for December.

At a hearing held on Tuesday, Justice Department attorneys said that the agency plans to pursue criminal contempt charges against the controversial Sheriff Arpaio, a DOJ spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.
