Law360, New York (December 14, 2015, 5:24 PM ET) — The U.S. Department of Justice has urged the U.S. Supreme Court not to hear an appeal filed by an asylum-seeking gypsy who claims Bulgarian police harassed and beat him, telling justices the man’s claims about an unfair hearing don’t have any merit.
In papers filed with the high court Wednesday, the DOJ disputed Nikolay Ivanov Angov’s argument that the Ninth Circuit made a mistake in June when it upheld an immigration court’s decision to deny him asylum.
