Law360, Los Angeles (August 31, 2016, 5:57 PM ET) — Alabama is appealing to the Eleventh Circuit a district judge’s ruling blocking its challenge of the U.S. government’s potential placement of Syrian refugees in the state, saying the suit’s dismissal was based on a “technicality.”

The state filed a notice of appeal on Tuesday in its case against the federal government over refugee resettlement efforts, which relied on the claim the government violated the Refugee Act of 1980 by not consulting with state officials regarding the placement of refugees in the state.
